A POOLE school has raised impressive sums for charity after fundraising throughout November.

Yarrells School and Nursery took part in the Christmas Shoebox Appeal for the Trussell Trust, held fun events in aid of Children in Need and fundraised for the Royal British Legion with a Poppy Appeal.

The school's fundraising efforts resulted in over £1k being raised for two charities.

On Wednesday, November 17, staff and pupils loaded up a Trussell Trust van with gift-filled shoeboxes.

A spokesperson for Yarrells said: "We packed the van full of a whopping 187 Christmas shoeboxes to be given to children in need in Europe as part of the FSCI Christmas Box Appeal.

"It has been lovely to see the smiling faces of pupils as they bring their boxes into school."

The week prior to this donation, over £700 was raised for Children In Need.

Pupils took part in an online 'Duck Race', ran a paper aeroplane competition, paid to 'Soak the Teacher' and the staff did a sponsored bus pull.

Head Teacher, Sally Weber said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed throwing sodden sponges at teaching staff during their break times. The staff bus pull went very well indeed, even when the bus was full of Years 7 and 8 children.

"It was a great day and we’re so glad we’ve been able to raise funds for children whose lives are far less fortunate than our own. The sense of responsibility we feel towards each other in our wider community is greater than ever as we continue to hold tight amidst the pandemic."

Pupils enjoyed all aspects of the Children In Need fundraiser, particularly soaking the teachers.

Year 6LM said: "We really enjoyed the special day for Children in Need, the most fun was soaking the teachers but we don't think they wanted to be soaked. We thought the duck racing was so funny, especially the commentating and we couldn't believe it when the teachers managed to pull the school bus along with Mr Hayes in the driver's seat.

"We're looking forward to our next charity day when we can enjoy raising money for a good cause."

Yarrells' poppy appeal raised a fantastic £376.79 and the school would like to thank their school community for their generosity and for making the extra effort to ensure the school reaches out to those in need.
