DRIVERS going out and about next week are likely to encounter roadworks in towns and cities across Hampshire.

Ongoing schemes include a multi-million-pound project to convert a 14-mile stretch of the M27 near Southampton, Eastleigh and Hedge End into a smart motorway.

A 50mph limit is still in force, with average speed cameras monitoring the area affected.

Daily Echo:

Other major schemes include improvements to the Redbridge roundabout, at the southern end of the M271, and repairs to the Redbridge Causeway.

Elsewhere motorists could encounter road closures or other measures aimed at ensuring people comply with social distancing rules. In some areas pavements have been widened, resulting in less room for vehicles.

Alresford and Lee-on-Solent are among the areas affected by Covid-related restrictions.

In Southampton part of Bedford Place has been closed to vehicles in a move aimed at enhancing social distancing as well as improving air quality in the area.

Other major schemes in Southampton:

West Quay Road: Work to improve access for people walking and cycling along West Quay Road from Herbert Walker Avenue to Harbour Parade.

The last phase of works starts on Monday November 23 and involves the southbound side between Dock Gate 10 and Ikea, with the associated lane closure and traffic management in place for one week. Work is planned to complete by the end of November.

A334 Thornhill Park Road/Hinkler Road Park:

Work to upgrade the traffic signals at A334 Thornhill Park Road / Hinkler Road Park junction. The project will also deliver new crossing facilities for people walking and cycling across the junction.

Works are now in the second phase, with upgrades taking place to the signals on the south (Hinkler Road) side of the junction.

A334 Thornhill Park Road remains narrowed to one lane under temporary traffic lights and Hinkler Road remains closed at this junction. Browning Avenue also remains closed at the junction with Hinkler Road.

Millbrook Road West resurfacing:

Overnight work to start at 8pm on Monday November 23 for one week including the weekend. This will require an overnight closure of Millbrook Road West westbound from Millbrook Roundabout to Millbrook Point Road. Working hours will be between 8pm and 6am. No closures during the day.

Daily Echo:

Drivers travelling further afield are being warned that both carriageways of the M4 will be closed between junctions 8/9 (Maidenhead) and 6 (Slough East) this weekend for resurfacing work.

Traffic will be diverted along the A308M, A308, A332 and the A355.

Drivers using this stretch of road are advised to plan their journeys, allow extra time or avoid the route if possible.
