A PRIMARY school in Broadstone has raised over £1k thanks to their exciting Children in Need Christmas-themed fundraiser.

Broadstone First School's Dash to Lapland event saw pupils and staff run and walk daily in order to cover the 2,109 miles to Lapland from the primary school in aid of Children in Need.

All participants completed their regular daily miles each day plus one extra special ‘Dash’ at the end of the week on Friday, November 13.

A spokesperson from the school said: "We organised the event Dash to Lapland as we wanted an event that would excite the children as we approached Christmas, and this was definitely the one. We gave them to option to wear Children in Need or Christmas accessories too.

"Years One, Two, Three and Four took part in the challenge and due to Reception not being in school that week, staff and children did some extra laps to make up the difference. Some of those children also contributed to Dash to Lapland from home."

So far, this festive fundraiser has raised an incredible £1,334.18 thanks to the efforts of staff and pupils.

A week after the event occurred, donations and sponsorship forms are still pouring in.

Head of Broadstone First School, Rebecca Wood said: "The children’s resilience shone through on Friday 13; there were smiles and laughter all around and each and every one of them tried their hardest. I am so incredibly proud of everyone’s support, especially through these tough times."

PE Teacher, Sophie Burke added: "We are passionate about raising physical activity and sporting achievement in all our learners whilst promoting a long-term healthy lifestyle through the mantra "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind."

"Children in Need gave us another great opportunity to get all our learners up and moving with our Dash for Lapland fundraiser. I am super proud of all their efforts."
