FLY-TIPPING on a path linking Penhill with Abbey Meads has sparked anger.

Alex Johnson, 70, discovered the rubbish while going for his daily lockdown exercise along the path in Shrewton Walk.

He said: “I just don’t understand why people do this.

"We’ve been given all this nice green woodland and then someone has just spoilt it.”

Alex, who is retired and lives near Grafton Road, said the worst section is where the path crosses what used to be a stream in Penhill Valley.

“There’s a little bridge that crosses where the stream or brook used to be and obviously the stream can’t run anymore because it’s just full up with rubbish,” he said.

“I don’t know how many black bags there are, all full of stuff. A supermarket trolley, bathroom rails, all sorts down there.

"There are even green bags down there which are full of grass. If you want to get rid of the grass just tip the grass out – don’t leave it in a bag.

“You can’t see the stream because of all the rubbish.

Once you cross the bridge you can see in the bushes it’s just full of rubbish all the way down to Abbey Meads."

The pensioner has lived in the area for 12 years and grew up in Penhill Valley.

“It’s very frustrating,” added Alex. “As a resident you try and keep the area nice and then someone just comes and dumps their rubbish here. Whoever has done this, needs to get it cleaned up.

“The services are quite good, if you put your dustbins out the dustbin men will come and take your rubbish. There are good places to go where you can take your rubbish.

“I don’t see why people think it’s ok to come here and dump rubbish in the bushes."
