Families in north Swindon will be given support by a new food handout session starting in Penhill.

Every Friday people who have been referred will be able to come to collect surplus supermarket food at the Chippenham Close Community Centre between 1pm and 4pm.

The initiative is a partnership between Swindon Night Shelter and Renew Men’s Shed Project, which are based at the centre.

Sessions will be Covid-19 secure with a one way system and only six people inside at one time.

Dawn Prosser from Renew Mens Shed said: “The plan is to provide food for those who might struggle at weekends.

“It’s great that Renew Mens Shed can open up the centre and host Swindon Night Shelter to help feed those who might be finding things difficult and also reduce food surplus at the same time.”

After the second lockdown there will also be there will also be a clothing pop-up shop on the first Friday of every month.
