A second man has appeared in court in connection with a violent attack on Christmas Day that left the victim with a ripped ear.

Terrence Jacks, 32, of Bisley Close, Park North, admitted causing grievous bodily harm to the man in the early hours of December 25 – but denied a more serious charge of wounding with intent.

Judge Jason Taylor QC adjourned the case for the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether those pleas would be acceptable.

A co-defendant, Jordan Nicholson, pleaded guilty to the wounding with intent charge when he was before the crown court in June.

The two men are accused of taking part in an unprovoked attack on a man and his girlfriend in Swindon in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Nicholson, 19, attacked the man with a pole and stamped on him. His girlfriend was also assaulted.

At an earlier hearing the court heard the teenager’s victim had a number of injuries, including a ripped

ear.

In June, Nicholson’s record was labelled appalling by Judge Taylor, who ordered a report from the probation service looking at whether the man should be given an extended sentence. Despite his young age, the man has convictions for robbery, GBH, ABH and weapons possession.

The judge said: “You must understand on any view you have pleaded guilty to a very serious offence and custody is inevitable. But your record is so bad that a judge needs to approach this very carefully.”
