A WEST Dorset Road was closed for several hours after a vehicle crashed into an electricity pole.

B3157 Burton Road, in Burton Bradstock, was shut after a car collided with an utility pole at around 1.20pm on Sunday (October 25).

Photographs from the scene show the vehicle was severely damaged and broke the electricity pole in half.

Firefighters from Bridport and Lyme Regis were called to the scene to stabilise the vehicle and place a safety cordon around the surrounding area.

Dorset Police shut the coastal road for several hours as emergency services responded to the incident.

A man was treated at the scene and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police was called at 1.33pm on Sunday (October 25) to a report of a collision involving a car and an electricity pylon on Burton Road in Burton Bradstock near Bridport.

“Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance services. The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

“The driver was taken to hospital to be checked over as a precaution.”

A spokeswoman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to Burton Road, Burton Bradstock at 1.37pm on Sunday afternoon after reports of a one vehicle road traffic collision affecting a utility pole.

“Two crews attended from Bridport and Lyme Regis and the driver was able to release himself, so firefighters stabilised the vehicle for safety and put a safety cordon in place.”

She added firefighters left the scene at 2.28pm as police officers continued to manage the incident.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service Trust said: “We also responded to a call at 1.29pm about a single-vehicle collision on the B3157, Burton Road in Burton Bradstock.

“We assessed and treated a male patient at the scene.”

Burton Road reopened in both directions later on Sunday evening.
