UTM PRIME CATTLE

Auctioneer – Andrew Body

A super entry of finished cattle containing a good proportion of single-suckled and well-done dairy x cattle met with an improved trade for all on offer although a few “out of spec” light heifers sold accordingly.

With plenty of demand from butchers, local and further afield abattoirs, more finished cattle are required.

Top price per kilo was 219p for a Limousin x heifer from Messrs. W.T. Bryant & Sons of St. Martin purchased by David Wilton of Peter Morris Butchers, St. Columb.

Steers close behind with two Limousin crosses also for Messrs. Bryant’s at 216p/kg (£1,542) and 217p/kg (£1,508); but claiming the premium at 218p/kg was a 683kg Blonde d’Aquitaine x from Messrs. F.T. & F.M. Johns going to Roger Eddy of Tehidy.

Overall top value selling to David King of Exeter at £1,560 was Messrs. Bryant’s heaviest 743kg steer, with their seven Limousin crosses averaging 213p/kg.

Dearest heifer at £1,386 was a 660kg Simmental x from Messrs. M.D. Curtis & Son of Gunwalloe bought by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.

A good solid entry of mainly younger stores contained several smart shapey cattle with vendors from all parts of Cornwall and beyond.

This week the ladies led the way, seeing top price of the day of £1,120 for a standout single 19 month old heifer from a smart bunch of Limousin crosses from Messrs. A.R. & B. & A. Hosking of St. Martin.

At £980 were a Limousin & Charolais heifer pair from Messrs. C.R. & I.E. White of Helston at 15 months old, with a younger 13-14 month old bunch of five at £960.

Other nice young Limousin x heifers from Messrs. T.A. & F.A. Jenkin of Newbridge to £950 and true yearling £910.

The Limousin x steers from Messrs. White, all just 8 ½-10 months old saw top trio at £1,005, with others at £930. South Devon and Limousin 18 month old steers all to £975, and a pair of 15 month old British Blue x steers at £940 for Messrs. M. & S. Baxter of Wendron.

Stirks from Mr. L. Vague of Baldhu saw a 5-6 month old Blonde d’Aquitaine x steer pair top at £605.
