A driver has been arrested after around 60 sheep were killed when a lorry transporting livestock overturned, writes Chris Dyer.

A 34-year-old man from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following the crash. He has been released on conditional bail pending further investigation, police said.

The collision caused a busy A-road in Horsham, West Sussex, to be closed in both directions for several hours on the afternoon of Monday, September 28.

The RSPCA and Defra have been informed of the incident, while police and the fire service attended the scene at around 4.20pm.

Police said the sheep were in the lorry which overturned on the northbound carriageway on the A24 at Dial Post, near Horsham.

A force spokesman said: "The 34-year-old man from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

"He has been released on conditional bail pending further investigation.

"The road was closed in both directions for several hours as officers responded to the scene, and we'd like to thank the public for their patience and understanding.
