COUNCILLORS have condemned the "disgusting and cruel' attack on a cat which was beheaded and dumped in a Weymouth street.
As previously reported, a family pet cat was found beheaded by a suspected sharp instrument.
Councillor Louie O'Leary, Dorset councillor representing the Littlemoor and Preston ward, is "disgusted" by the cruel act. He said: "This is absolutely disgusting and I am shocked. This is not something you would ever expect to hear.
"Clearly whoever did this must have issues and problems so I sincerely hope police catch them so they can get what they deserve and never do this again.
"I send my deepest sympathies to the family of the cat. It is so sad to lose a pet when they have been in an accident or when they have to be put down, but to have one murdered is completely out of order.
"I would recommend cat owners keep their pets inside as much as they can at the moment. It is very disappointing that people have to do that but it might be the safest thing to do for the time being."
Cllr David Mannings, Preston representative at Weymouth Town Council, added: "I am so saddened to hear this awful news.
"Any injury to a pet or animal is cruel and the person that did this could be a danger to the community.
"My thoughts are with the family."
