Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a strong seasonal trade for lambs to £116.50. Prime Cattle sold to £1,387.26 for a heifer.

(60) UTM & (25) OTM PRIME CATTLE

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report slightly reduced entry of 85 prime cattle, when again best quality was in very short supply.

Top was 212.5ppk for a very shapely, handy weight (540kg) Limousin heifer (FA) from WJS Camp, Kentisbury, who sold similar very shapely and Limousin steers at 209.5 (564kg) and 200.5ppk (582kg) and a well fleshed black butchers’ type Limousin heifer (570kg) at 191.5ppk. Leaner shapely red Limousin steers at 205.5 (604kg) and 204ppk (623kg) from HWC & JM Butler, Flax Bourton, who also sold a very shapely, lean red Limousin heifer (620kg) at 204.5ppk. Very similar heifer (538kg) at 198.5ppk from N Cotterell, Williton.

The day was topped by AAB Rowe & Son, Chilton Trinity with a 734kg Charolais heifer at £1,387.26, who also sold a 704kg Angus heifer at £1,288.32.

Steers sold to £1,302.54 for a 691kg Limousin from HWC & JM Butler, who sold further Limousin steers at £1,270.92 (623kg) £1,241.22 (604kg) and £1,230.04 (644kg) who also sold a Limousin heifer at £1,267.90 (620kg). 658kg Blue heifer at £1,233.75 from SL & TA Bell, Otterhampton.

46 BARREN COWS & CULL STOCK BULLS

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report another very short entry of cows, when quality and assurance was in very short supply.

A nicely fleshed Friesian (FA) topped at 131.5ppk from RJ Edwards, Pawlett. Further farm assured Friesian cows at 118.5 and 117.5ppk from Croker Farms Ltd, Bridport.

Dairy breeds sold to £895.52 for a 681kg Friesian from RJ Edwards. Suckler cows peaked at 131.5ppk for cows also to 131.5ppk for a Hereford (FA) from LC Hellier & Son, Wells. Further farm assured Herefords at 128.5 and 124.5ppk from M Whitefield, Weston Super Mare. Farm assured Angus cow also at 128.5ppk from JM Fox, Fivehead. Continental cows rose to 125.5ppk (FA) also from JM Fox.

Sucklers sold to £975.25 for a 830kg Simmental from SD Kunda, Hemyock. Further Simmentals (841kg) at £937.72 from M Christian, Dorchester.

1234 FINISHED LAMBS

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report more lambs forward at 1234 head sold at lower levels, but remaining a very strong seasonal trade. The best sold to 216ppk from C Reasons. Others 214ppk from PJ Holloway; 213ppk from FG, NK & AJ Gammon Ltd; 210ppk from TC & SCI Pain; 209ppk (2x) from Thornhill Farm (Dorset) Ltd; 208ppk from AE Toogood, LJ Vowles, R & K Dorpman and HJ & HB Case Ltd and 207ppk from Wallmead Farm Partners (2x) DA & AP Gillbard and AF & AH Powell.

Heavier lambs sold to £116.50 and £106 from HJ & HB Case Ltd. Others £112.50 and £110 from C Reasons; £107 and £105 from PJ Holloway; £107 from P Heald; £106.50 and £105.50 from Thornhill Farm (Dorset) Ltd; £106 from R & K Dorpman and £105 from P Clark. Overall average £88.89.
