A much-reduced number of prime cattle on offer this week disappointing the strong contingent of buyers requiring larger numbers to fulfil orders.
Liveweight prices remain ahead of deadweight with particularly strong local demand.
Top price per kilo was 219p for a 623kg Limousin x from Messrs. P.R. & T. Eustice of Crantock also standing overall top value heifer realising £1,364 to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow.
Next at 217p/kg was another Limousin x heifer, this one for Messrs. A.J. & S.T. Richards of St. Keverne and purchased by Chris Dale Butcher of Helston.
On the steer side, three nice Aberdeen Angus crosses from Mr. C.B. Stevens of Germoe hit 207p/kg with heaviest 815kg steer topping at £1,491, both also bought by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd.
Four young 15 month old bulls from Messrs. C.R. & I.E. White of Helston saw a Limousin top at 198p/kg and £1,069 to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.

Another large entry of cull cows in excess of other regional markets this week contained a good proportion of heavy, well-fleshed types with trade similar to recent weeks.
Two Limousin x cows leading at 146p/kg for Mr. P.E. Phillips of Carnmenellis, and Messrs. T.A. & F.A. Jenkin of Newbridge with their 786kg cow also standing top value at £1,148, both bought by David King of Exeter.
Premium Friesian at 124p/kg was a big 798kg cow from Messrs. A.D. & J.A. Bray of St. Martin realising £990 to David Ellis of Lelant.
A Limousin cull bull for Messrs. R.G, E.J. & G.A. Williams of St. Martin topped at 132p/kg and £1,224 to David King.

A similar entry to previous weeks contained a higher proportion of younger cattle including several suckled calves. Strong 2 year old steers from Mr. D. Rounsevell of Veryan saw a pair of Aberdeen Angus crosses top at £1,175, and a Charolais x at £1,095.
A nice run of 16 mainly British Blue x steers from Mr. C.G. Andrew of St. Dennis saw top bunch of four around 20 months old at £1,000, and younger bunch of five at £900.
A nice 16 month old Simmental x steer trio from Messrs. D.P. & M.L. Osborne of Carharrack hit £985, who also had overall top heifer the same age at £955.
Well-grown 14 month old steers from Mr. A.J. Jelbert of Mitchell saw a Limousin x pair at £905 and Hereford x £890.
A grand bunch of 21 suckled calves from Mr. M.B. Williams of St. Just saw top trio of heifers at £625 for Limousin crosses 10 months old, with even younger Limousin & British Blue x steers to £650!

A lovely entry of strong fresh-calved and in-calf Friesian heifers from Messrs. R. & D.P. Rule of Mawla, Redruth sold well with a fresh-calved heifer at £1,340.
The in-calf heifers, all due this Autumn to Genus Aberdeen Angus bulls, met a great deal of interest selling to a top call of £1,280 twice, all averaging £1,150.
A young British Blue x heifer/calf outfit for Mr. K. Thomas of Wendron, Helston sold well at £1,460.

A quality entry and tremendous trade to match!
A fine pen of Texel x shearling ewes forward from Mr. W.F. Teagle of Trevithick, Newquay saw prices peak at £162. Dorset x shearlings from the same vendor realised £158.
Two further pens of quality Texel x 2Ts for Mr. P. & Mrs. E.M.J. Eggins of St. Breock, Wadebridge sold at £158.
A fine entry from Mr. P.L. Batten of St. Columb being his main flock dispersal which comprised seven pens of superb, bid-bodied Charollais x Dorset ewes.
Mr. Batten’s 4T ewes all achieved £160 with older ewes seeing four pens of full mouths also selling to £160 twice, all averaging £152!
A super quality consignment of two pens of December-born Dorset ewe lambs from Mr. D.J. Lobb of Little Polgooth, St. Austell realised £152.
Longwool ewes from Messrs. M. & S. Baxter of Wendron, Helston achieved £110.

An increased entry met with a good contingent of keen buyers and many more could have been sold to an excellent trade.
Top call was £79.50 for a pen of short-keep Suffolk x stores from Mr. A.G. Tomlison of Portscatho, with two-thirds of stores achieving in excess of £70.
