A North Devon dairy that's been in business for 45 years is closing down.

Stapleton Dairy announced on Facebook that it will close next week because of changes in the marketplace and the economy.

Peter and Carol Duncan have made ice cream and yoghurt with milk from a local herd of Jersey cows at the dairy in Langtree, Torrington, since 1975.

The owners wrote on Facebook yesterday: "We really want to keep going but we simply can't.

"The changes which have taken place in the marketplace and general economy over the past couple of years have made it incredibly challenging to produce food at the standard we feel comfortable with whilst maintaining and running a well-run and up-to-date dairy.

"We've therefore decided to shut our doors and say farewell to Stapleton.

"Thank you so much to all of you for your support over the last 45 years.

"We were especially heartened by the support of all our local shops and customers during the Covid crisis and for this we are incredibly grateful."

The final deliveries will be made and orders fulfilled next week (week commencing 31 August 31).
