This funny photo shows the moment that police returned to their vehicle after dealing with an incident - to find two goats stood on the roof of the car, writes Sarah Lumley.

The two bold animals made their way onto the top of the police vehicle on Tuesday (August 18) whilst officers were in a nearby field after being called to reports of an unexploded mortar shell.

After making sure the area was safe, the officers were surprised to return to their car to find another incident - damage done to the police vehicle by the goats' hooves.

One of the officers shared the amusing photo on the Isle of Wight Police Facebook page, writing: "A quick update in relation to an incident that happened yesterday on the Island.

"In a field on the outskirts of Newport what turned out to be an unexploded mortar from the Second World War was discovered that needed making safe.

"Our colleagues from the Royal Navy Explosives Team came across and 'made it safe'.

"Unfortunately whilst there a couple of 'kids' caused damage to one of our police vehicles.

"If you recognise the offenders from the photo please let us know..."

And Isle of Wight residents were quick to share their goat-related jokes and puns on the photo.

Sam Hollinsworth commented: "Kids today - no discipline."

And Rebecca Penny wrote: "Brave 'kids' laughing in the face of the law. Did any negotiations have to take place, or was force necessary to have them removed?"

Meanwhile, Michael Ford joked: "That must really get your goat."
