There has been a rise of five new cases of coronavirus in Cornwall over the past two days, the latest figures show.

Due to an issue with the data recording on Thursday there had not been an update on figures from Wednesday, which showed 948 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly since the start of the pandemic,

However, as of 4pm yesterday this has risen to 953. The latest update is due this evening.

Nationally in the UK there have been 316,367 confirmed cases so far to date - a rise of 1,441 cases on the previous day.

No deaths related to coronavirus were recorded across Cornwall in the latest weekly Office for National Statistics information, released on Tuesday.

The latest figures from the ONS, which has been collating data for deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community, relate to the week of July 25 and July 31, but were registered up to August 8.

It means that Cornwall's overall coronavirus death toll continues to stand at 208, a figure that has remained static since July 21, when it rose by one on the previous week's update.

There have been no hospital deaths since July 2.

Across England as a whole a further four people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,456.

Patients were aged between 66 and 88 years old and all had known underlying health conditions. Their families have been informed.

None were from the south west.

A further six deaths have also been reported by NHS England where there was no positive Covid-19 test result, but the virus had been documented as a suspected direct or underlying cause on the death certificate.
