There is particularly heavy traffic on the A30 this lunchtime, with queues reported to stretch for seven miles.

Traffic sensors are showing long delays and queuing traffic in both directions in the usual hotspot of the Chiverton Cross roundabout at Three Burrows to the Carland Cross roundabout and the junction with the A39.

It is the usual heavy build up of traffic as some holidaymakers try to leave Cornwall and others arrive.

Currently travel time for that stretch of road is reported to be around 40 minutes.

Earlier this week it was announced that a major road upgrade that promises to transform journeys on the A30 in Cornwall is due to get under way in the coming weeks.

Work is to begin on dualing the nine-mile stretch between Chiverton and Carland Cross in a £290 million project beginning in September and expected to take three years to complete.

There are similar delays further up where the A30 connects to the M5, where the AA is reporting slow traffic eastbound between the A377 Alphington Junction and M5 J31 Okehampton turn off.

Delays of six minutes and increasing are reported the A30 Fingle Glen and M5 J31, with an average speed 20 mph.
