SALISBURY Live has been cancelled after organisers decide it may have been "a bridge too far",

It had due to take place on the August bank holiday weekend (August 29 and 30) with music across two stages.

The official statement from Salisbury Live said: "Following the 13th August Wiltshire County Council statement approved by the Director of Public Health, and Wiltshire Police in relation to events planned in Wiltshire and in particular the larger gathering, open-air live music events, Salisbury Live and Salisbury Rugby Club have taken the decision to cancel the Big Live Weekend at Salisbury Rugby Club on Bank Holiday August, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30."

They added that it was decided "it may be ‘a bridge too far’ for this type of ‘amplified live music’ event to take place in this current climate".

On Saturday, August 29, Europe’s top Oasis tribute band Oasis Maybe had been booked to headline, with the Deloreons as main support.

On the Sunday it was to be Pink Floyd tribute act All Floyd to headline.

Colin Holton from Salisbury Live added: "At the time of planning this event we followed the guidelines that were set out by DCMS and PHE. We also acted on the advice from relevant local authorities.

"We were confident that the appropriate measures regarding audience and artist safety were in place.

"We do realise however that we are in the grip of a nasty pandemic and it would be irresponsible of us to go against and ignore professional, expert advice.

"We would like to thank all the organisations and artists involved in the planning of this event and a very special thanks to Salisbury Printing, James Hay Partnership, the Salisbury Journal, Tony Tyler Financial Services and Enigma Security for their sponsorship and endorsement of the event.

"This was well on the way to being a sell-out event so thanks also to the Salisbury public for their support, encouragement and enthusiasm. Ticket refunds will be available from source of purchase.

"We will be back at the nearest opportunity as better days are surely around the corner."
