THE body of a Jack Russell puppy has been found discarded in a Somerset gateway.

Details of the awful find have been released by the RSPCA in a bid to find out who left the animal 'like a piece of household rubbish'.

It was found on a plastic puppy pad in a gateway off Hewish Lane, Crewkerne, at around 7pm on Sunday, August 9, an RSPCA spokesperson said.

The white and tan-coloured terrier is thought to be around six months old and had signs of a recent operation due to a small shaved patch on a leg and injection marks.

RSPCA inspector Marie Griffiths, who is investigating the incident, said: “Anyone who has any information should contact our appeals line on 0300 123 8018, and leave a message for myself. All calls will be treated with confidence.

“We’re not sure why this poor dog has died but what we do know is he had been discarded dispassionately like a piece of household rubbish.”

The RSPCA is continuing its vital work rescuing animals during the Coronavirus crisis and is calling for donations via www.rspca.org.uk/covid to help the charity keep rescuing animals and keep animal hospitals and centres running for emergency treatment and round the clock care.
