Greenslade Taylor Hunt report another superb prime cattle trade. More penned at 113 head and dearer again. Good to see returning Vendors once again supporting the liveweight market. More wanted to fuel demand.

Top was 223ppk for a very shapely, red Limousin heifer (550kg) from N Cottrell, Williton, who sold two more very similar at 222.5ppk (565kg) and 221.5ppk (603kg). Very shapely red Limousin heifer from J & S Vinnicombe & Son, Exeter, also at 221.5ppk (521kg) who sold well fleshed black Limousin heifers at 215.5 (527kg) and 211.5ppk (590kg). Very shapely red and grey Limousin heifers at 220.5 (550kg) and 213ppk (508ppk) from CJM Shackleton, Wiveliscombe. Very lean feeding Limousin heifer (513kg) at 217ppk from RW Fry, Long Sutton. Angus heifers to 206ppk (535kg) from J & A Moon, Glastonbury. Many better heifers 200ppk plus.

Steers rose to 215.5ppk for a very shapely red Limousin (556kg) from J & S Vinnicombe & Son again. 620kg red Angus steer at 206ppk from F & M House & Son, West Huntspill. Gold Charolais at 204.5ppk (562kg) from SC Norman, Bridport. Chocolate and white Simmental steer at 203.5ppk from CRG Wall, East Huntspill. Further Angus at 201 (440kg) and 199ppk (513kg) from MF Bathard & Sons, Bristol. Good Blue steers at 200.5 and 198.5ppk from SJB Adams & Son, Rhode. Smart black Limousin at 199.5ppk (624kg) from MJ Tuckett & Partners, Exeter.

Prices of note on the steer side were 191.5 (628kg) £1,202.62, 184.5 (607kg) £1,119.92, 183 (630kg) £1,152.90 and 176.5 (715kg) £1,261.98 for excellent Friesians from HC Derryman & Sons, Yarcombe.

Steers sold to £1,445.08 from a 728kg Blue from JM Cload & Partners, Westport, who sold another at £1,302.62 (682kg). Further Blues at £1,314.07 (662kg) from SJB Adams & Son. Hereford at £1310 (677kg) from RM Sparks & Sons, Wellington.

Heifers sold to a massive £1,391.28 for a 744kg Hereford from CRG Wall. OTM heifer to £1,390.65 for a 730kg BRB from JM Cload & Partners. Limousin heifers at £1,384.53 (694kg) and £1,335.75 (650kg) F & M House & Son and £1,335.65 (603kg) N Cottrell. Charolais heifers at £1,377.40 (710kg) and £1,337.87 (706kg) both from RJ & LA Mitchell & Voke, Chew Stoke.

72 Barren Cows and Cull Stock Bulls. Auctioneer’s comments:

Greenslade Tayor Hunt report a slightly increased entry of 72 cull cattle met another fantastic trade. A reduction in overall quality, yet trade even dearer.

Top was 159.5ppk for a superb Red Limousin cow from Cricklake Farm, Wedmore, who sold another at 147.5ppk.

Native cows rose to 153.5ppk for a shapely South Devon from Hill & Johnstone, Culmhead. Angus and Devons to 140.5 and 138.5ppk respectively from Devon Farming Ltd, Bratton Flemming.

Sucklers sold to £1,111.36 for an Angus from Devon Farming Ltd. £1,054.34 was realised for the South Devon from Hill & Johnstone.

Dairy breeds on fire to 146.5ppk twice for well fleshed Holsteins from FE Hill & Son, Coultings, who sold another at 144.5ppk. Fleckvieh cow at 144.5ppk again from Fullabrook Farm, Ilfracombe, who sold a Holstein at 133.5ppk. Friesian at 139.5ppk from CJ Mear & Son, Chard. Normandy also at 139.5ppk from Bayley Partners, Beaminster. Further good meat Holsteins 138.5ppk twice from both LG Heal & Son, Andersea and P & M Eccles, Bradford on Tone, who both sold others at 137.5ppk. 137.5ppk again from R & J Jones & Son, Farringdon.

Dairy breeds sold to a massive £1,215.95 for an 830kg Holstein from FE Hill & Son, who sold others at £1,202.24 (832kg) and £1,103.15 (753kg). 852 and 754kg Holsteins from LG Heal & Son returned at £1,171.50 and £1,044.29 CJ & JA Reed, Bridgwater sold at £1,089.68 (835kg). Fleckvieh at £1,144.44 (792kg) from Fullabrook Farm, who sold a 738kg Holstein at £955.71.

1560 Finished Lambs and Hoggs. Auctioneer’s comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a much larger entry than expected of 1560 lambs sold to a much stronger trade than expected. The best sold to 230ppk from AE Vile & Son. Others 226ppk from RAD Legg and RH Hill; 223ppk from ER Baber and N & J Agriculture Ltd; 221ppk from CHJ Atwell & Sons and 200ppk from CJ Sage.

Heavier lambs sold to £119.50 from JG & YL Bennett. Others £115 and £110 from TP & JA Cole; £114 from CHJ Atwell & Sons and PFJ Saunders; £113 from RAD Legg; £112.50 and £110 from AE Vile & Son; £111 and £110 from RJ Lee and J Sprake & Partners; £111 from Milborne Wick Farms Ltd and DH & KM Edwards and FA Ford; £110.50 from RH Hill and £110 from AGF Lockyer.
