Emergency services attended an incident in Penryn this lunchtime involving a dog said to be in distress in the water.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said at 1.40pm that two water rescue vehicles were at the scene, along with an incident commander and a tactical advisor.
A spokesperson confirmed: "We are attending an incident in Penryn where a dog is reported to be in distress in water."
The RSPCA had also been contacted requesting an officer to attend.
A fire service spokesperson gave an update shortly before 2.30pm, to say that crews had carried out a search of the area.
They added: "Whilst we have been unable to locate the dog, following information from witnesses we are satisfied that the dog has self-rescued from the water."
The spokesperson went on to say that the dog warden had been informed as the dog was unattended.
