FIREFIGHTERS helped rescue a baby deer stuck in a water-filled ditch this afternoon.

A crew attended the incident in Lower Stoford Lane, Bradford-on-Tone, at around 1.20pm.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "One fire engine from our Taunton station along with a specialist tactical advisor were mobilised to the scene.

"Crews, assisted by the member of the public, were able to carefully free the deer and then carefully took care of the animal whilst awaiting the arrival of an RSPCA inspector.

"Crews left the scene and we have since been informed that the RSPCA inspector remained monitoring the deer from a distance until it got to its feet and ran off to safety."
