The town’s art centre will be joining event venues across the country and will be lit up red on Monday.

Bridport Arts Centre will be taking part in the Light it in Red initiative, which aims to highlight the ‘dire situation’ the industry is facing.

Dee Fenton, operations manager at Bridport Arts Centre, has added her thoughts to information from Light it in Red. She said: “Bridport Arts Centre is being lit in red on Monday, July 6 when companies across the UK are lighting their buildings in red in order to draw attention to the dramatic situation in the event industry.

“Seventy-two per cent of the industry is self-employed. Freelancers, manufacturers, supply chains, trades, all work seamlessly in great theatres, festival arenas and endless variations in between.

“The whole eco system of what the sector does needs support because it is unlike any other industry and there is no set date as to when it may reopen. For many businesses, the months during the festival season provide up to 50 per cent of their annual income, and the sector is worth billions to the national economy.

“We get to create memories for people and are incredibly proud to work in this industry. The sector needs help right now because it may not be here in six months time.”
