Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an increased entry of 94 prime cattle met another very bright trade. Incredible trade for butchers’ type steers and heifers. Many more wanted as butchers experience a resurgence, when restaurants and pubs are quieter.

Top was 211.5ppk for a very smart Limousin heifer (553kg) from Cole & Partners, Kingston Seymour, who sold further best butchers’ type heifers at 208.5, 207.5, 204.5, 199, 197.5, 196.5, 193, 192 and 190.5ppk. Further well fleshed butchers’ heifers at 200ppk, MJ Tuckett & Partners, Exeter; 199.5ppk, PA Strawbridge, Honiton and 199.5ppk again, 198.5 and 197ppk from SER Hunt, Kilve.

Steers topped at 209.5ppk for a 553kg butchers’ type Limousin from SER Hunt again. Further handyweight butchers’ type steers at 201.5, 189.5 and 189ppk, TE Pocock & Co, Stringston; 190.5 and 189.5 MJ Tuckett & Partners again. Heavyweight commercial Charolais steers at 189.5, 189 and 186.5ppk from BA Richards, Williton and 188ppk (2x) and 186.5ppk from L & A Maddock & Co, Wiveliscombe.

Steers sold to a tremendous £1,601.15 for a huge 897kg Blue from CG, GR & MS Spiller, Upottery, who sold another at £1448 (800kg). Charolais at £1,391.04, £1,376.37 and £1,358.72 from BA Richards. Hereford steer at £1,281.11 from R & G Speed, Axminster.

Heifers sold to £1,239.92 for a Charolais from Cole & Partners, who sold Limousins at £1,230.43, £1,218.03 and £1,207.22. Further Limousins £1,218.95, PA Strawbridge and £1,216.81 and £1,215.49, SER Hunt.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a near identical number entry at 72 head met a dearer trade. Not the quality on the black and whites and a lot of full cows met excellent demand and prices pushed on again.

Top was 168.5ppk for a superb Blue cow from M & R Hodges, Bishopwood. Further best type Blue cows at 164.5ppk, PA Strawbridge, Offwell and 162.5ppk, S & P Boyer, Coxhill. Further good meat continental cows at 147.5ppk, Blonde, SG Harraway, Mark; 144.5ppk, Charolais, AS Cowling, Clatworthy; 138.5ppk, Charolais, W Hilborne & Son, Wells; 137.5ppk, Simmental, M & R Hodges again and 136.5ppk, Limousin, Loosemore & Son, Fitzhead.

Dairy breeds rose to 143.5ppk for a Holstein, which might just have had a touch of Blue in her, from RJ Stitch, Axbridge. Pedigree Holstein at 135.5ppk from R & J Jones & Son, Stogursey. More best meat Holsteins 132.5ppk, BAC & HM Trim, Combe Raleigh; 130.5ppk, RJ Stitch again and 123.5ppk, PW, MA & RJ Bell, Westhay.
