DOZENS of firefighters have been battling a large barn fire this afternoon (Wednesday, June 24).

Four engines and a water carrier were initially sent to the incident in the Churchstanton area at 12.31pm.

On arrival, crews confirmed a barn containing straw and silage was well alight and a further engine was sent to the scene, along with a telehandler, welfare unit, incident support unit and incident command unit.

Crews tackled the barn fire and also turned over straw in nearby fields.

Firefighters continued to dampen down and turn over to extinguish the fire.

The incident is currently ongoing.
