Falmouth's mayor Steve Eva has returned for a second year in office - and is now calling on local charities to nominate themselves for financial support.

Mr Eva said it was an "honour" to represent the town again, until May 2021.

Normally a formal mayor-making ceremony takes place each May, to elect someone to the role for the forthcoming year.

However, due to coronavirus restrictions that has been unable to take place this year.

Mr Eva was elected to office last May, taking over from Grenville Chappel.

Each year the mayor of Falmouth chooses a charity to support with fundraising over the following 12 months.

Mr Eva now wants local organisations to put themselves forward, saying he hoped to raise £1,000 "to make a difference."

He said: "I am looking for a local charity to support through my current term and hope to raise £1,000 to make a difference, and help a local good cause during this difficult time we are all currently experiencing.

"I am asking for any local registered charity to apply to become my charity for the year."

Charities should apply by sending their details to the mayor's secretaries Emily Middleditch and Val Rogers by emailing emily@falmouthtowncouncil.com giving details of their work within the local community and saying what difference a donation of £1,000 would make.
