A FURTHER death due to coronavirus has been recorded in Cornwall's hospitals today.

Tuesday's NHS England figures show an increase of one, bringing the total to 90.

The latest loss of life was at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, where the total has risen to 64.

The number of deaths at hospitals run by the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust remains at 26.

The NHS England totals only cover deaths in hospitals, with the Office for National Statistics putting the overall number of coronavirus-related deaths in Cornwall at a minimum of 192.

The ONS figures include hospitals, care homes and deaths in the wider community.

Across England, a further 143 people who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 26,865.

Patients were aged between 36 and 100 years old. Eight of the 143 patients (aged between 48 and 91) had no known underlying health condition, NHS England said.  

Their families have been informed.

In the south west as a whole, six new deaths have been confirmed.

There have been 576 confirmed coronavirus cases in Cornwall to date.
