The closing date for the next round of grants made available by Oswestry Sports Forum is approaching.

After the groups recent AGM, the closing date for the next round of grants has been confirmed as Monday, June 8.

Sports clubs and individuals who live or train within 10 miles of Oswestry are eligible for grants.

In the past, the grants have helped a number of local clubs and individuals in their sporting endeavours, and more are being urged to apply this year.

A spokesman for the Oswestry Sports Forum grants committee said: “Oswestry Sports Forum is proud to have supported a wide variety of local sports.

“Last year, our grant to Henry Walker allowed him to buy a custom-made cricket bat to use on his tour to South Africa with the county youth squad.

“He went on to score his first hundred for Oswestry Cricket Club’s third team during last season.

“Oswestry Boys and Girls Club also won a grant to buy training goals for their junior girls section, although all club members are also able to use them.

“In our last grants round in February, we awarded grants to Croesoswallt Archers for new straw target bosses, to Oswestry Community Games, towards the cost of medals, and to Charlie Jumar towards an international training camp with MD Warriors.

“The plans and aspirations even from our February grants meeting now seem from a distant world.

“Many local Sports Clubs have new and more anxious financial needs and we offer our support during through this crisis.”

The maximum grant is £500 for clubs and £300 for individuals, and applications will be assessed before Thursday, July 2
