North Petherton Town Councillors have been keeping their eyes on public open spaces in their area to make sure that they are properly maintained during the virus crisis.

In Wilstock and Stockmoor, councillors Les Pickersgill, Lucinda Spelman Ives and Richard Ives, have been undertaking regular inspections - while observing social distancing rules - to identify overgrown areas before informing North Petherton’s mayor Cllr Alan Bradford so that the Council can arrange to have them cut and keep them looking nice for people to enjoy.

The three Wilstock and Stockmoor councillors said: “The good thing about our mayor is that he doesn’t just talk, he sees then takes action.

“He genuinely cares for people and places in the whole of the North Petherton parish.”

Changes to the lockdown rules have also meant that residents have been able to enjoy the facilities of the newly developed Country Park between Wilstock and Stockmoor.

Cllr Bradford added: “It has been lovely seeing families out safely enjoying the natural environment on their doorsteps.

“Residents now realise how lucky they are to witness flourishing wildlife

“It is great to have humans and nature respecting each other and living side by side, something quite special.”

As pressure mounted on the District Council’s workforce to respond to the crisis, the Town Council has arranged for its street cleaning contractor, GWB Services, to work with them and take on tasks that would otherwise have to be left.
