A choir in Helston has marked eight years of friendship and support by creating a humorous video to one of their best-loved songs.

Despite being in lockdown when the anniversary was reached, members of Culdrose Military Wives Choir didn't let distance stop them from coming together digitally to celebrate being one of the longest standing members of the international network that now comprises 75 such choirs in the UK and at bases abroad.

They filmed themselves singing 'The Climb,' a song originally performed by American singer Miley Cyrus for the 2009 film Hannah Montana: The Movie, but which has arguably gone on to become more famous in its own right.

The lyrics in the song speak about overcoming struggles and uphill battles, which resonated with the wives and girlfriends of personnel based on Helston's navy base, whose partners often spend long periods away at sea.

As a result, the group relies on the friendship of each other and lockdown has provided particularly challenging - but as the video points out the start: "Gathering is banned but we stay positive and stronger together."

The choir said: "Since we can't sing together in person at the moment, we marked the happy occasion by remotely recording a song from our repertoire.

"'The Climb' seemed to sum up these challenging times and offer some space for interpretation..."

The fun video sees members interpreting the lyrics in different ways

Members have found creative ways to sum up the various lyrics.

The video, put together by Anna Oliver, sees them finding different ways to 'climb,' from up stairs and ladders, to hills and tree.

There is also a 'mountain' to conquer in the form of a giant washing pile, someone straying strong while weight-lifting tins of beans, and another keeping the faith while dressed as a nun.

Each member remotely recorded the audio of the song, with the choir's new musical director Pete Truin piecing it together into one group piece.
