A prison governor has thanked residents after they made way for a delivery to the jail.
Twenty two shipping containers had to be delivered to HMP The Verne last Thursday which meant vehicles needing to make repeated journeys up and down Verne Common Road.
The containers are to be used as additional accommodation units to assist with measures to combat coronavirus – although currently there are no cases at the Verne, governor David Bourne said.
The prison, with support from Dorset Council, arranged a leaflet drop asking residents of Verne Common Road to assist by moving their vehicles in order to leave a clear route for the delivery.
Mr Bourne said: "The residents responded fantastically. Without their help and support our day would have been very complicated. My sincere thanks to all concerned – the job would not have been done without that help from the residents."
