THE number of deaths in Cornish hospitals due to coronavirus has remained static in the latest figures.

The total has stayed at 86 in Tuesday's NHS England update.

That means that three deaths have been recorded in hospitals in the past fortnight, since May 5.

Of those, 26 have taken place at Cornwall Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust hospitals and 60 at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

Across England, a further 174 people tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,913.

Patients were aged between seven and 102 years old. Of those, six - aged between 45 and 90 - had no known underlying health condition, NHS England said.

Their families have been informed.

In the south west as a whole a further nine deaths have been confirmed.

The figures do not include loss of life outside of hospitals, in settings such as care homes.

The latest estimate on total deaths in all settings in Cornwall from the Office for National Statistics, which was updated today, is 174.

There are currently 561 confirmed coronavirus cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
