A similar entry to last week but with mainly steers on offer.

Trade continues similar to recent weeks but insufficient numbers to satisfy buyer demand.

Top price per kilo was 205p (£1,236) for a standout 603kg steer from a trio of Limousin crosses from Messrs. D.C. & S.A. Martin of Lowertown bought by Chris Dale of Dales Family Butchers of Helston.

A further steer from Messrs. Martin at just 15 months old made 203p/kg realising £1,240 to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow.

A better entry on the week with a good run of Friesians on offer which were selling very well.

Few beef types forward but what was on offer sold to a strong trade topping at 123p/kg for best South Devon x from Mr. P.R. Weldhen of St. Columb to David King of Exeter.

Leading the Friesians was a big 807kg cow from Mr. D.J. Heller of Blackwater at 117p/kg realising £944, also bought by David King.

STORE CATTLE

Almost 200 store cattle, an increase on last week, and mainly younger types forward.

An extremely good trade across the board with plenty of demand from buyers spaced around the ring.

This week’s highlight was the advertised entry of 52 cattle on behalf of Mr. P.R. Weldhen of St. Columb which saw Limousin and South Devon x steers sell to a top call of £1,110.

A younger South Devon steer pair hit £1,055 and his smart young heifers saw dearest South Devon x trio top at £725.

A grand trio of Limousin x yearling steers from Messrs. J. & J. Sawle & Son of Beacon realised £780.

The heifer section was topped by a bunch of four Limousin crosses from Tresco Estate of Tresco, Isles of Scilly at £855.

A similar trade to last week, with the freshest pick lambs selling to a premium.

Two pens of cracking butcher’s quality lambs from Messrs. C.H.P. Powell & Sons of St. Ervan saw their best-pick 42.2kg lambs setting the premium to 261p/kg and selling at a joint top price of £110 to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow.

Also achieving £110 were selling a pen of 51.6kg Charollais lambs from Messrs. R. & J. Bailey of Frogpool, bought by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.
