A reduced entry this week met a strong demand from buyers around the ring.

Trade was firm and above other regional centres.

Both sections reaching a premium this week of 193p/kg: a 599kg South Devon x steer for Messrs. C.R. Elliott & Partners of Portloe realising £1,156 and a Limousin x heifer from Messrs. D.C. & S.A. Martin of Lowertown at 544kg making £1,050, both bought by Chris Dale of Dales Family Butchers of Helston.

A light entry of cull cows but well-covered types which sold to a very strong trade and buyers would have competed well for a greater number.

Friesians from Messrs. R, N.W.G. & P.J. Worden of Gunwalloe sold to 118p/kg twice with heaviest 779kg cow dearest at £919, both bought by Dawn West Devon.

Overall top value dairy was a big 817kg Swedish Red & White x from Messrs. P.J. Grylls & Sons of Kenwyn selling at 117p/kg and £956 to Dawn West Devon.

Almost 150 store cattle this week met a continued firm trade with well-spaced buyers around the ring bidding strongly.

A run of 2 year old cattle from Mr. J.G. Luke of Carn Grey saw a top price of £890 for his Stabiliser x steers, also topping the heifers at £845.

Younger bunches of Aberdeen Angus x South Devon steers from Mr. R.R. Quinney of Veryan sold to £855.

Nice cattle from Mr. W.L. Rowell of St. Keyne mostly 18 months old saw British Blue and South Devon crosses to £790.

A run of young cattle from Mr. A.J.H. Lawry of Kenwyn saw British Blue, Hereford and Limousin x steers and heifers all upwards of £640.

British Blue bulls from two vendors reached £210, for Mr. J.D. Hosken of Ponsanooth with a 3 week old calf; secondly for Mr. D.J. Heller of Blackwater, Truro who also sold an Aberdeen Angus x bull at the same price.

Leading heifer was a Limousin x at £172 for Messrs. M.J. & R.M. Tremayne of Constantine.

Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station; also for a 44.8kg pen from Cregan Gate Partners of Grampound Road bought by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow.
