Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a desperately short entry of 35 prime cattle met a shade easier trade again, as deadweight quotes continue to fall and being a short week, loads are cancelled or put back.

Top was 177.5ppk for a smart red Limousin steer from JM Darby, Bishops Lydeard. Another shapely red Limousin steer at 172.5ppk from Brightley Farms, Umberleigh. Red Limousin again at 168.5ppk from KJ & S Bishop, Enmore.

Steers sold to £1,201.04 for a 753kg Simmental from RE Webber, Stringston. Further Limousin steers £1,142.43 from KJ & S Bishop and £1,118.25 from JM Darby. Blue steer at £1,118.00 from JM Cload & Partners, Westport.

Heifers rose to 175.5ppk for a shapely red Limousin from JM Darby again. Smart Limousin heifers at 173.5, 172.5 and 170.5ppk from KJ & S Bishop again.

Heifers sold to £1,207.96 for a tremendous 808kg Charolais from RE Webber again, who sold another Charolais heifer (780kg) at £1,173.90. Good Simmental heifer at £1,023.78 from TE Pocock & Co, Stringston. Further heifers over £1000 being a Limousin at £1,012.77 from KJ & S Bishop and a Blue at £1,007.76 from JM Cload & Partners.

23 Barren Cows and Cull Stock Bulls. Auctioneer’s Comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an exceptionally short entry of 23 cull cattle, met a trade certainly no worse and with the good quality on offer, brighter in terms of prices achieved.

A smart run of Limousin cows from KJ & S Bishop, Enmore, met calls of 130.5, 129.5, 127.5, 125.5, 123.5 (2x) 122.5 and 120.5ppk. Well fleshed Angus cow from BM Rogerson, Chilton Polden, rose to 122.5ppk. Hereford cow at 115.5ppk from HR & BM White & Sons, Watchet.

Sucklers sold to £926.55 for a Limousin (710kg) from KJ & S Bishop, who sold another at £915.45 (718kg).

Dairy breeds rose to 115.5ppk for a good type Friesian from GC & MJ Hares, Highbridge. Fleshed Holsteins at 110.5 and 109.5ppk from FE Hill & Son, Stockland Lovell. Young Friesian cow (41m) at 103.5ppk from TJ & SM Hobbs, Spaxton.

Dairy breeds sold to £880.38 for a 804kg Holstein from FE Hill & Son.

1293 Finished Lambs and Hoggs. Auctioneer’s Comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an increased entry of 326 lambs sold to a firm trade for all presented. The best sold to 263ppk from AP Carter. Others 260ppk from D Day; 258ppk from NF Newman and 254ppk from P Tapp.

Top prices per head were £113 from TE Harris. Others £108.50 and £105 from NF Newman; £108 and £105 from JA Dyer; £105 from L Heywood; £104 from AL Dyer; £103.50 from AGF Lockyer and £103 from DW Hewlett and JH Waterman & Sons. Overall average £98.38.

Fewer hoggs forward at 967 head sold to a firm competitive trade for the handyweights but more difficult for the heavier hoggs. Handyweights sold to 219 and 210ppk from SJ & JB Clatworthy and 219ppk from C Dimmock. Others 216ppk from RJ Whitcombe; 211ppk from BB Akerman and RB Cox; 210ppk from MJ & CR Amos and A Burland and 209ppk from CHJ Atwell & Sons.

Top prices per head were £100 from T &I Collard, JG & WE Down & Son, AAJ Bown and DF Ayre. Others £99 from AE Vile & Sons; £98.50 from ER Rosewell; £96.50 from J Tucker & Partners and C Dimmock and £95.50 from RB Cox. Overall average £88.56.
