LOCAL authorities have received £12 billion to help support businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Business secretary Alok Sharma gave his 'heartfelt thanks' to businesses who are helping to keep the economy going.
He outlined the business rate relief and direct grants payable via local authorities which are currently in place.
Mr Sharma said it would be 'completely unacceptable' for banks to refuse financial support to businesses which need it.
The government says it is also dramatically expanding number of NHS beds and equipment and staff.
As of today, 152,979 people in UK have been tested and 29,474 have tested positive.
Sadly 2,352 have died, an increase of 563 since yesterday.
The youngest was just 13 years old.
