A fire that caused "huge unrest" in Devoran is now at the centre of a police appeal.

Officers have described the victim of the blaze as "fearful and anxious" after the incident, which is believed to have been arson.

Police have today launched a public appeal for information about the fire, which took place in Belmont Terrace back in February.

Firefighters were called to the property on Monday, February 24 after the fire was started at some point between 6.30pm and 7.55pm.

The arson involved a building that was under construction.

A police spokesperson said: "The fire, which engulfed the entire timber-framed building, is believed to have been started deliberately and police enquiries are ongoing.

"Extensive damage was caused and nothing could be salvaged from the property."

The spokesperson went on to say: “The fire has had a major impact on the victim, leaving them fearful and anxious about what may happen next, affected the community and caused huge unrest in the village.”
