A FIFTH person in Cornwall has died from coronavirus.

Yesterday the first deaths in the county were announced, with four having died from COVID-19.

Tonight it has been announced that another person has lost their life.

A Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust spokesperson said: “Sadly, we can confirm that a patient who had been cared for at Royal Cornwall Hospital, and had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.

"The patient was in their 60s and had underlying health conditions.

"The family has been informed about the cause of death and are following national guidance.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time. Out of respect for their privacy we will not be commenting further.”

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: "Our thoughts go out to their family and friends at this difficult time.

"We are continuing to work closely with our health colleagues to support their efforts to manage coronavirus.

"We urge everyone to follow the Government’s advice on staying at home, especially for our older residents and people with underlying health conditions.

"Please see www.gov.uk/coronavirus for all latest advice."
