The UK's biggest pork producer, Tulip, has confirmed that 49 more jobs are to be lost at its Bodmin centre.

In October Tulip confirmed that it was conducting a consultation on its 'unsustainable' site, putting 240 jobs at risk.

Prior to consultation 270 were employed but through the consultation, the site has seen a reduction in headcount by 75, either through redundancy or resignation.

This week the company has confirmed that an "additional" 49 redundancies are to be made at Bodmin in order to "secure the future of the site".

A spokesperson from Tulip said: "Changes to shift patterns and working arrangements will unfortunately result in an additional 49 redundancies. Individual discussions will be taking place with those impacted.

"It is always disappointing to have to lose people from our business, but we are satisfied that the improvements which have already been implemented at the site as a result of significant efforts of all parties, together with the additional changes which will now be actioned, will ensure a sustainable future for the site."
