Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a smaller entry of prime cattle at 85 head met a firm trade but was held back by too many of the entry being too fat or carrying too much belly waste.

Top was 191.5ppk for a smart Limousin steer from J & S Vinnicombe & Son, Ottery St Mary, who sold another at 187ppk. Good continental steers at 188 (Simmental) 185 and 181ppk (Limousins) from J & J Meaker & Son, Langport. Further good Limousin at 180.5ppk from ML & EE Edwards, Wick St Lawrence.

Steers sold to £1,280.20 for a Limousin from J & J Meaker & Son. Further Limousin at £1,274.88 from MM & EE Edwards.

Heifers rose to 185.5ppk for a very shapely and well finished Limousin from PJ & BM Coles again. Quality Limousin heifers at 183.5 and 183ppk from J & S Vinnicombe & Son again. Smart suckler bred Charolais heifers at 180 and 179.5ppk from L & A Maddock & Co, Wiveliscombe. 179.5ppk was also bid for a well covered Limousin from RC Rowe & Son, Upottery.

Heifers sold to £1,281.40 for a good OTMS Limousin from PJ & BM Coles, who sold a UTM Limousin at £1,261.40. Dairy bred Limousin at £1190 from W Johnson & Son, Dalwood, who sold another at £1,179.72. 732kg Limousin at £1,185.84 from SER Hunt, Kilve. Charolais at £1,179.62 from L & A Maddock & Co.

51 Barren Cows and Cull Stock Bulls. Auctioneer’s comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a short entry of 51 cull cattle met a flying trade. All grades of cows wanted to a top of 144.5ppk for a very well finished Limousin cow (910kg) from PJ & BM Coles, Bridgwater, who sold further very good Limousin cows at 138.5 and 135.5ppk and a Blue cow at 132.5ppk and a Simmental at 122.5ppk. Further well fleshed Blue cow at 131.5ppk from WR Adams & Sons, Chard. Pure Charolais cow at 131.5ppk also from AS Cowling, Clatworthy.

Native cows rose to 122.5ppk for an Angus from MR & SK Westcott, Porlock. Further Angus at 119.5ppk twice from DJ Toogood, Langford Budville.

Suckler cows sold to a tremendous £1,314.95 for the top price Limousin from PJ & BM Coles, who sold a further Limousin at £1090 and another Blue at £1060. Further Blue at £1,005.98 from WR Adams & Sons, Chard. Angus at £960.40 from MR & SK Westcott & Son and £926.13 from DJ Toogood.

Dairy bred cows also in very keen demand to 120.5ppk for a well fleshed Holstein from R & J Jones & Sons, Stogursey. Dairy Shorthorn at 117.5ppk from NW Doble & Sons, Crewkerne. Friesians to 116.5ppk from Mitchell Bros, Merriott. Further Holsteins at 115.5 and 113.5ppk from DC Dennis & Son Ltd, Ivybridge. Fleshed cows 105ppk plus.

Dairy breeds sold to £1,013.56 for a 893kg Holstein from DC Dennis & Son Ltd, who sold another at £884.73. Other Holsteins to £988.10 from R & J Jones & Son.

862 Finished Hoggs. Auctioneer’s comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a similar sized entry of 862 hoggs sold to an overall dearer trade for all presented. The best sold to 217, 214 (4x) 212 and 211 (2x) for a smart run from GJ Warren and 217ppk from RB Cox. Others 214ppk from C Reasons; 213ppk from MJ & GM Summers; 211ppk from Appley Estates Ltd and 210ppk from KA Foxford, H & DC Besley Ltd and SGE Hatch & Son.

Heavier hoggs sold to £115 from RB Cox. Others £114 and £106 from RE Webber; £111, £110, £107 and £106 (2x) from J Sprake & Partners; £111 and £110 from A Dagger; £110 and £109 from MJ Keate; £109 from GR Davis; £108 from SGE Hatch & Son; £107 from CHJ Atwell & Sons and £105 from RG Withers & Partners.
