THE FARMING Health Hub will be visiting two Mole Valley stores in Cornwall to offer drop-in health MOTs for farmers.

Two health professionals from Cornwall Council Public Health will be on hand to offer free NHS health checks.

The clinics will be held on February 11 in Liskeard and February 12 in St Columb and will run from 10-4pm.

Between 6pm and 9pm on each day, farmers will also be able to find out about the general work undertaken by The Farming Health Hub in store. This will go hand-in-hand with Mole Valley Farmers’ shareholder event, where farmer members can get double discounts between 6pm and 9pm on specific store days.

Lorna Filby, head of safety and wellbeing for Mole Valley Farmers says it’s important to take a moment to consider our own health and wellbeing.

"We all know it can be difficult to fit in a trip to the doctors in-between busy farm life, so services like this from The Farming Health Hub are hugely valuable,” she says. “The events are a great chance to get your blood pressure checked, have a hearing test or discuss weight management - and there’s no need to book ahead! Just pop in on the day.”

The Farming Health Hub is a relatively new Cornwall-based charity, set up in October 2018 by Jon James. The charity’s aim is to join up the range of pubic, private and voluntary services available to support rural communities and link up farmers with the services.

The charity works with a number of organisations including the NHS and Public Health, as well as charities like RABI and FCN. They are also linked with companies that can offer farmers business support, such as solicitors and financial advisors.

Providing services in easy to access locations - so farmers can fit a trip in as part of their day-to-day lives - is an important driver for the charity.
