THREE container buildings have been completely destroyed after a fire in Frome.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public at 10.08pm on Thursday (January 9) who reported that his property in Trudoxhill was involved in a fire.

Three fire engines from Frome and Shepton Mallet were sent to the scene.

On arrival, the incident commander confirmed that three container type buildings converted into a domestic dwelling were fully involved in fire along with a car and a tractor, and therefore requested the attendance of a further appliance from Shepton Mallet.

Crews quickly got to work to begin tackling the fire using breathing apparatus and attack jets.

A man was reported to have been suffering with smoke inhalation and burns to the hands, so the ambulance service were requested, while crews administered first aid to the man.

A water carrier was also requested to assist with transporting large volumes of water to the incident, along with an incident support unit, which were both from Yeovil.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "The fire caused approximately 100 per cent damage to the buildings and contents and significant damage to nearby vehicles.

"The victim is receiving support and guidance from British Red Cross."
