A COMMUNITY farm facing financial difficulties received a boost from a Weymouth charity.

Fancy’s Farm on Portland was recently presented with a special gift when Friends Of Ridgeway Plus made a donation of £250.

Friends Of Ridgeway Plus is a charity that helps raise awareness and funds for adults with learning disabilities who attend Ridgeway Plus Day Services, Links Road, Weymouth.

The charity was saddened to hear that Fancy’s Farm is struggling, and with many of the clients from Ridgeway Plus having enjoyed trips to the farm, it was felt that a donation would help them out - especially over the Christmas period.

Chairperson of Friends Of Ridgeway Plus Margaret Hamilton - whose son Mickey attends Ridgeway Plus - said: “Fancy’s Farm is a wonderful place to visit. It is so important to have a community farm like this in the local area.

“Our charity felt it was only right to help another good cause.”

The cheque presentation was held at Ridgeway Plus Day Service and included a visit from the Portland Alpacas, which clients really appreciated and enjoyed.

This visit was just one of the special things that Friends Of Ridgeway Plus has arranged over the past year for the people it helps to support.

The next event will be their annual Dance Party on January 31, which is being held at the Riviera Hotel, Weymouth.

This event is always well attended and it is hoped that this year will be the most popular one yet.
