Somerset farmers invited to free health and safety event

South west insurer Cornish Mutual and independent, mixed animal veterinary practice, Shepton Vets are helping Somerset farmers stay up to date with the latest health and safety advice. The two companies are running a free event, which is open to all, at Castle Cary Rugby Club on Friday, January 17.

Each year, a number of UK farmers are killed as a result of injuries sustained by livestock.

To raise awareness, the event will provide expert insight and training on a range of topical farm safety issues: Michael Head of Shepton Vets will run a session on safer animal handling, Joe Rice First Aid Training will cover CPR, bleeds and breaks, Jon and Penny Bond of Hush Farms will focus on quad bike safety and Cornish Mutual claims team leader, Arthur Denton will look at risk assessments as a crucial tool for any farm or rural business.

Cornish Mutual managing director Peter Beaumont said: “Farming is the most dangerous occupation in the UK and this event is part of Cornish Mutual’s commitment to improving health and safety on farms.

“For many years, we have run free events across the south west to help farmers stay up to date with the latest advice and best practice. These interactive events are a great way for farmers to get together and share their experiences while also learning from some of the region’s leading safety experts.”

The event is free and open to all but booking is essential due to limited numbers. Please contact Cornish Mutual on 01872 246474 or email engagementandpr@cornishmutual.co.uk to book.
