(52) UTM & (7) OTM Prime Cattle. Auctioneer's comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a smart entry of prime cattle met a very good trade ahead of Christmas. Fleshed cattle dearer and feeding cattle very well sold.

Top was 197ppk for a very smart Limousin steer (red, clipped & near pure) from Hayman & Groves, Charterhouse, who sold another Limousin (black & clipped) at 186.5ppk. Lean, near pure white Charolais steer at 188.5ppk from G Vining, Biddisham. Top quality dairy bred Limousin steer at 176ppk from W Johnson & Son, Dalwood. Barley Blue at 179ppk from SER Hunt, Kilve.

Native steers rose to 183.5ppk for a very smart Angus from RJ Bailey, Middle Chinnock, who sold others at 181.5 and 177ppk. Feeding Hereford at 172ppk and feeding Angus at 169ppk from Holway Farms Ltd, Cattistock.

Steers sold to an excellent £1,311.20 for a dairy bred Limousin from W Johnson & Son. Shorthorn at £1,254.05 from RJ Bailey. Charolais steer at £1,249.76 from G Vining. OTM Limousin steer (clipped) at £1,239.05 from FG Payne & Sons, Wellington.

Heifers topped at 191.5ppk for a smart, nicely fleshed red Limousin from RJ Bailey again, who sold a shapely, leaner black Limousin at 184.5ppk. Barley Blue heifers at 183, 182 and 179ppk from SER Hunt. Best dairy bred Limousin heifers at 181 and 174.5ppk from W Johnson & Son.

Native heifers to 172.5ppk from Holway Farms Ltd. Herefords to 171.5ppk from RP Tucker & Son, Middlezoy.

Heifers sold to a huge £1,284.32 for a Limousin from W Johnson & Son, who sold another at £1,167.45. Blue heifer at £1,204.78, RC Rowe & Son, Upottery, who also sold a Hereford at £1,149.13. Further Limousin only 592kg at £1,133.68 from RJ Bailey. Further Herefords at £1,133.62, £1,074.02 and £1,043.20 from RP Tucker & Son. Barley Blues (590 and 575kg) at £1,079.70 and £1,046.50 from SER Hunt.

61 Barren cows and cull stock bulls. Auctioneer's comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a short entry of 60 cull cattle before Christmas met a flier. Many more could have been sold to advantage and many more were wanted.

Top was 126.5ppk for a really well fed Holstein from MM & EH Lucas, Puckington, who sold others similarly well finished at 123.5 and 120.5. Further meat Holsteins at 115.5ppk, JM & SN Faun, Holford; 113.5ppk (Friesian) Crocker Farms Ltd, Bridport and the best of a long run from RJ Tucker & Sons, Othery at 109.5ppk twice.

Dairy bred cows sold to an excellent £1,101.62 from MM & EH Lucas, who sold other Holsteins at £1,094.23 and £1,031.48.

Suckler cows rose to 123.5ppk for a Blue from RW Tapp & Son, South Molton, who sold another Blue at 120.5ppk. Native sucklers to 122.5ppk for an Angus from Hayman & Groves, Blagdon. Devons at 121.5 twice and 119.5ppk from JH & FL Waterer, Chittlehampton and 119.5 and 116.5ppk from GJ Summerhayes, Westleigh. Herefords to 119.5ppk again from MA & SS Sanders, Luckwell, Bridge.

Sucklers sold to the day’s top of £1,124.27 for a Blue from RW Tapp, who sold another at £929.96. Hereford at £989.46 and £900.58 from MA & SS Sanders. Devons to £911.25 from JH & FL Waterer.

966 Finished lambs. Auctioneer's comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a good number and quality entry of 966 lambs sold to a very pleasing trade, when much lower prices were reported at many other centres last week. The best sold to 209 and 205ppk (2x) for a quality entry of Beltex from B Williams. Others 196ppk from PR Nicholls; 193ppk from M Heal, Hopcraft Ltd, Vigar & Son and AL Butcher & Sons Ltd; 192ppk from CJ Sage and 191ppk from D Rayson.

Heavier lambs sold to £110 and £98 from N Nation. Others £97.50 and £96.50 from MJ Patch; £97.50 from TC & SCI Pain; £97 and £95 from J Sprake & Partners; £97 from ER Gillbard; £95.50 from KC & JM Cooke and £94.50 from RC Stock and J Peaster. Overall average £86.29.
