Falmouth’s Festive Weekend is in full swing, offering affordable fun for whole family.

Two days of events kicked off at midday, with a 45-foot Victorian style carousel on The Moor, an artificial ice rink on Church Street Car Park, and a land train running from The Moor to Events Square via Market Strand, Market Street, Church Street and Arwenack Street.

Organisers have ensured each one only costs £1, making them available to all, with the money raised from ticket sales going back into a pot for next Christmas.

In High Street, there is a hog roast with mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and a silent cinema for all to enjoy.

Head over to Arwenack Street and peruse wartime-themed window displays and costumes.

Artificial snow is falling through the main street to add to the seasonal atmosphere.

The Falmouth leg of the Santa Fun Runs, in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care, has been timed to coincide, with runners setting off on their route through the town at 1pm.

Businesses will be getting in to the spirit and there will be themed street events and local choirs, bands and performers lined up on both days.

The events are being funded this year by Falmouth’s Town Team (the partnership between Falmouth Town Council and Falmouth BID) with support from the Christmas Working Group.

Over the two days there will also be free entry to the National Maritime Museum for all residents with TR postcodes.

Richard Wilcox, Falmouth BID manager said: “Christmas is a special time of year in Falmouth and we are delighted to be working alongside the business and wider community to deliver another new event that will further enhance the town’s appeal.

“Recent feedback has indicated an appetite for organising a new activity to help elevate the existing Falmouth Christmas offer and so out of those discussions, Falmouth’s Festive Weekend was born.

“The event really has the potential to grow and develop, connect the community and encourage people to visit our special town over the festive period.”

Richard Gates, Falmouth town manager, added: “I’d like to thank the Christmas Working Group for their efforts, Falmouth Town Council and BID for their support, as well as the wide variety of volunteers who have given up their time to help us shape the Christmas programme."

Sadly, the strong winds have led to the cancellation of the Christmas on the Square element, which included the Jump, Jive & Jingle Christmas Party with Company B.

The organisers said: "Safety for everyone involved, the public, stallholders and crew is of utmost importance to us and it is with great sadness that we're unable to go ahead.

" We sincerely apologise for any disappointment and inconvenience caused."

Anyone who purchased a ticket for Company B on Sunday night will be contacted and refunded by See Tickets.

The indoor events on the square, including gingerbread decorating at Rick Stein's, are still going ahead.
