Avon and Somerset Police are investigating an incident at stables in the Pitway Hill area of South Petherton, in which two horses suffered cuts to their faces.

The horses, one female and one male, suffered injuries caused by a sharp object, possibly a knife.

The event took place some time between 10pm on Wednesday December 4 and 8.45am the following day.

Both horses needed emergency treatment, including stitches and stables, and they are on continuing medication.

PCSO Nikolaus Burge, from the neighbourhood team, said: “This is a very disturbing attack on two horses for no apparent motive.

“While offences like this are very rare, we’d encourage horse owners in the area to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
