A small entry of just under 100 suckled calves were forward for the first season's sale at Tavistock Livestock Centre.
Trade on the whole was better than expected with a very near 100 per cent clearance.
Top price on the day was £665 for four 9-11mo Charolais x steers from Mr G H J Medland, Peter Tavy. This was closely followed at £665 for four January born Limousin x steers for Mr A W Francis, Okehampton.
Taviton Farms Ltd, Tavistock, had their annual run of Charolais x calves which topped at £600 for two 8mo and other steer pens at £580 and £560.
Heifers topped at £530 for three 10mo again from Mr G H J Medland, Peter Tavy; who had another pen of heifers at £510. Taviton Farms Ltd, Tavistock had a pen of six 7mo Charolais x heifers at £500 and a pen of four 7mo at £480.
Other notable prices included £570 for three 6mo South Devon steers from Messrs M & A Cole, Sampford Spiney; £550 for a 9mo South Devon steer from Mr M H Northmore, Horrabridge; £545 for six 6mo South Devon steers from Mr A Coaker and Mrs A Geen, Princetown; and £530 for two 8mo Charolais x steers from Miss C Wall, Liskeard.
