A motorist has been ridiculed online after he accused tractors of leaving a country lane coated - in mud, writes Chris Matthews.

Clive Oxley shared images of a back road caked in mud that had been dragged and spread from a nearby field in Cornwall.

Clive said the mess was caused by local tractor drivers and created dangerous driving conditions for cars and cyclists.

But while some locals agreed with his view - others defended the tractor drivers for doing a vital job.

Clive, who was driving along Rospeath, near Crowlas, Cornwall, at the time, said: "I was taking the back lanes because there was traffic chaos on the A30 .

"The amount of mud in the road was a joke, one bloke nearly came off his motorbike and had to walk alongside it to get it through.

"There was also a group of six cyclists who all had to get off and push. The guy on the motorbike couldn't believe it, he was spewing.

"Another car almost lost it on the bend. It's beyond a joke and it's been there for weeks now.

"They (the tractor drivers causing the mess) just don't care and you couldn't go more than four miles-per-hour. Someone needs to take action as it's quite a busy road. In fact, there's probably already been an accident.

"I know they've got to work but this is taking the p*ss. I know they're not all bad but the tractors fly at you down that lane."

It is now believed that much of the mess has been removed but Clive believes that it's only a matter of time before the road is restored to the condition in the pictures he shared.

Some agreed with him.

Jane Mankee said: "Totally agree and farmers pay no road tax on tractors or other agricultural vehicles."

However, others spoke up on behalf of tractor drivers.

Jake Redman said: "They've got to get crops in whilst there's a break in the weather. Give farmers a break."

Shaun Durrant added: "Lovely bit of mud. No farming, no food remember."
