Greenslade Taylor Hunt report September entries continue to grow when 83 fresh milkers including 71 calved heifers were on offer. The trade has eased over the last couple of weeks and become more selective with the best quality commanding the most interest. With so few cows forward it was not surprising that a pedigree 2nd calver topped the trade at £1930 for the last cow in the ring for Devon Dairy Farmers, East Avercombe Farm Ltd. Other cows to £1740 from DWT, EG & PW Jones, Bridport and £1740 and £1680 from AR Edwards & Son, Newport. Shorthorn cow to £1530 from Snook Ltd.

Best heifers to £1900, £1860 and £1700 from AR Edwards & Son for the first heifers in the ring. Breeding Ewes (928)

A large catalogued entry of 928 breeding ewes met continued demand, when many buyers were in attendance. Top call was £140 for pedigree Suffolk ewe lambs from JB Haines Estates Ltd. Suffolk Mule shearlings met good demand and sold to £135 and £128 from Foxhollow Farm Ltd. Texel Mule shearlings in short supply and sold to £126 from J Simons. North Country Mule shearlings close behind to £125 again from Foxhollow Farm Ltd. Older ewes to £123 for a fine pen of Charollais from S Bye & Son. Commercial ewe lambs to £81 from P Athay for his North Country Mules. Overall average £91.41.

Stock Rams (43)

A reasonable entry of 43 stock rams sold to a selective trade, when only the hardiest types met competitive bidding. A good run of Charollais from NF Clothier & Sons sold to £280, £275, £230 and £220.

Goats (48)

A similar entry of 48 goats sold to £97 for a strong billy from DE Stephens. Nannies topped at £84 from Bagborough Farms, who sold others to £82, £69 and £65. Overall average £68.17.
