Farmers, smallholders and stable owners are being encouraged to benefit from the ultimate in rodent control by adopting a feral cat this autumn.

Cats Protection is always looking for new outdoor homes for feral cats – those which were never properly socialised as kittens and cannot be homed in a domestic setting.

Happier to live outdoors, feral cats are highly effective at deterring rodents in all sorts of environments, from stables and farms to garden centres, pubs and homes with large gardens.

Cats Protection's events manager Emma Osborne said: “Keeping feral cats is an exceptionally efficient way to control rodents. What’s even better is that the service offered by feral cats is 100 per cent organic and environmentally-friendly, making them great for farms or smallholdings.

“We have homed many feral cats to working environments which have gone on to become much valued and well-loved employees.

"We always have plenty more out-of-work mousers ready, willing and eager to go to a new outdoor home, so we hope anyone with a suitable setting will give them a chance to shine.”
